The Heart of the Matter

Summer reading for me is usually light, beachy, and romantic. I’m currently reading three books at once. One is book 3 of a series called Spirit Hunters, by Ellen Oh. It’s teen reading, and I’m reading it with my grand daughter. One called The Heart Code, by Laura Manson Hahn about a family in 1930’s Connecticut and their travels to Czechoslovakia and New York City. I love it because it is mainly about the relationship of a girl and her grandmother. It was actually an accident that I ordered this book which leads me to the third book. The Heart’s Code, by Paul Pearsall MD. An apostrophe s makes a huge difference . And this is the book that has got me thinking…

The description on the back is as follows. “A fascinating synthesis of ancient wisdom, modern medicine, scientific research, and personal experiences that proves that the human heart, not the brain holds the secret that link body mind and spirit. ” So much for light reading. It is a lot of research findings on cellular memory, and theory and science behind energy cardiology. I find myself rereading most of it, and then reading it aloud to myself. I am an auditory learner, and I want to understand this fully. I’m on chapter 5 (again). Another premise is that a human heart thinks, remembers and communicates with other hearts. I cannot wait to finish and understand the whole thing, and it has already made me happy that I chose to be an organ donor.

My family is facing a medical crisis as I am writing this. Our niece, just 16 months old was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor. She has undergone 4 surgeries so far, and has a long road of treatment ahead. At first, I thought it was a nightmare that we all would wake up from. And then I thought it might be a test of some sort. “Why us” turned into “why not us”. But this book fell into my life at just the right time, and I know now that this journey is not a test, but rather a testament to the heartfelt love that family and friends have, and the power it has to help strengthen and heal not only this beautiful baby but all of us.

In the words of Tiny Tim, “God bless us everyone”.
